Our Story

Our mission is to promote self-reliance

The initiator is Ricky Mahabier. During a trip, he ended up in poor parts of Nepal and India. He was deeply moved by the fate of the people and became inspired to improve their circumstances. After working for Meeùs/AON for 15 years, Ricky resigned from his job in 2018 and followed his heart. He commutes back and forth to make a difference on location.

The Philosophy Behind “Project NEST”

The Name

Why “Project”? Every event in life is like a project; it happens to you, you get involved, or it’s a part of your life. Either way, you have to make the best of it with the resources you have. Why “Nest”? This is a place where you feel safe from the day you are born, a place everyone knows, it is your “home.”

The Colors

Project Nest has three colors: red, yellow, and blue. These are the three primary colors, which are the foundation, with which you can create all colors. It is proof that you don’t need much to create something “beautiful.” That is also the philosophy of Project Nest: You don’t need much to achieve great goals, as long as you mix the right elements together.

The Llogo

The logo represents the three domains Project Nest focuses on: “The 2 snakes around the staff” stand for health. That symbol, the Rod of Asclepius, represents medicine. “The book” stands for education and skills training. “The house” stands for protection by providing shelter and clothing. “The hand” in the chimney is “the helping hand” that our donors offer. The three stripes “red, yellow, and blue” under the house symbolize a “nest.”

Block
The Root of Most Problems and Poverty stems mainly from four main causes
Natural Disasters
Due to earthquakes and floods in the (recent) past, families have lost all their possessions.
Civil Wars
Due to civil wars, families have been disrupted, and children have lost their parents.
Health Awareness
Due to a lack of awareness regarding hygiene and health, poor people get sick, and due to the distances to hospitals, people die unnecessarily, or debts arise from hospital bills.
Lack of Education
Due to a lack of education, there is unemployment and therefore structural poverty, especially among people from remote areas.
